TikTok has taken over the world and made it easier than ever to go viral. The average TikTok user spends about 6 hours per week scrolling on their For You Page (FYP). I won’t tell you how many hours I spend each week on the app…
While watching videos is super fun, TikTok users also love creating their own videos. Posting on TikTok is a great way to connect with new audiences and generate a following. In fact, famous TikTok creators like Charli D’Amelio and Addison Rae have changed the meaning of the term “celebrity” in today’s world. But how do you become a TikTok influencer? Here are six tips for aspiring TikTok influencers.
The first step for any marketing, including your personal brand as an influencer, is to know your audience. Who are you talking to? TikTok has over 1 billion monthly users of all ages, races, and genders. You can’t just create content for all of TikTok – what does your target audience want to see? By identifying your target audience and researching what kind of videos they like, you can fine-tune your content and get on the right FYPs.
If you’re not sure who your audience is, TikTok has a feature called “Creator Tools” where they provide analytics on your followers, including gender and location.
Understanding and keeping up with trends is essential for success on TikTok. Don’t pick a random song for your video’s background music. Instead, look for popular sounds because those are more likely to be seen. Trending content also gives you insight into what kind of videos users like to see right now and what they are relating to. To get more views and accumulate followers on TikTok, post within trends but have a unique twist that captures your audience’s attention.
Hashtags are an important part of every social media platform, but using the right hashtags on TikTok can greatly increase your likelihood of appeasing the algorithm and landing on more FYPs. Unlike other platforms, your TikTok hashtags don’t always need to be relevant to the video. You can use random hashtags that are trending to boost your views. To see trending hashtags, simply type “#” in your captions and select the top options to add them.
As previously mentioned, TikTok’s Creator Tools allows influencers to track analytics. Users can see which times their followers are most active. Although your videos have the potential to go viral regardless of when they were posted, it’s better to post at peak activity times. Visit www.tiktok.com/analytics to see when your followers are using the app the most.
It’s also important to post consistently and frequently. Set a goal of how many videos you want to create each day (TikTok recommends 1-4 each day). Clear out those drafts! And don’t delete your videos if you don’t see immediate results. Sometimes videos from months prior can suddenly catch attention.
By cleaning up your profile and orchestrating it to depict exactly what kind of videos you post you can gain more followers on TikTok. For example, if you create humorous videos, make your bio and profile picture funny! Your profile page should reflect your personality and content so that when people visit it they know exactly what you have to offer.
Additionally, you should provide your followers with access to your other social media accounts. Add your Instagram to your page, and once you reach 10k followers you can even add a website link. I recommend adding your ATOM.BIO link so that your viewers can see all of your accounts and website links in one place.
Another great way to gain more followers on TikTok is to engage with other creators. The app has a lot of tools that allow you to do so, including Duet and Stitch. And don’t be shy to leave comments on videos you like – maybe that person will check out your page and follow you!
Studying trends on TikTok and engaging with others is a great way to get started as a viral influencer. But the real keys to success on TikTok and gaining a large following are creativity and persistence. Think outside the box, post your drafts without fear of judgment, and don’t give up!
